MEET THE TEAM
DAVID J. WHELAN, MBA
David J. Whelan has devoted his career to building successful businesses, from strategic, operational, financial, and human capital standpoints. He currently focuses on business strategy, marketing and branding, and operations. He has a strong analytical and quantitative background, coupled with deep strategy and team-building skills. He is as comfortable developing and positioning new organizations for success as he is helping improve the performance of established businesses.
Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President, Business Development & Chief Strategy Officer for New York Genome Center (www.nygenome.org), a unique not-for-profit scientific research institute, where he collaborated on the development of the business plan, fundraising of $110 million, and initial operational launch. His experience also includes roles as acting chief operating officer for a specialty chemicals distribution and laboratory services business, and product management and channel strategy for Apex Fitness Group, a division of 24 Hour Fitness. Earlier in his career, he spent over six years as a retained executive search consultant with Ethos Consulting Inc. As a consultant and confidante to his clients – primarily CEOs and venture capitalists – his mission was to help to build management teams that could build successful enterprises. Dave began his career with a biotechnology incubator in San Francisco. Dave has worked in and on behalf of numerous industries throughout his career, including aerospace and defense, telecommunications, software and hardware, biotechnology, manufacturing, consumer products and retail, entertainment, and not-for-profit organizations.Currently, he serves as a founding board member and advisor to O2 MAX Fitness, a teen fitness and media company, and Petite Village, an Internet service that connects parents with engaging activities for their children.
TRACY LESSOR, PhD, MBA, ELS
Most recently, Tracy served as a Senior Vice President, Science and Healthcare Communications at Feinstein Kean Healthcare/Ogilvy. Her experience also includes science journalism for the Journal of the National Cancer Institute and other oncology publications, regulatory strategy and intelligence at Millennium Pharmaceuticals (now Takeda Oncology), and senior clinical editor and program manager for live, print, and online continuing medical education (CME) programs at Pri-Med Institute.
Tracy earned her MBA in entrepreneurship from Babson College, PhD in molecular and cell biology from the University of Maryland Greenebaum Cancer Center, and BSc in exercise science and chemistry from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England. In 2005, Tracy became a board-certified editor in the life sciences (ELS).
